Hello! And welcome to Rizzo's Restaurant Picks. Each month I'll be taking you to visit a new restaurant which
will be one of many outstanding neighborhood
restaurants that abound in New York, but which very few of us
discover simply because we don't live in the neighborhood. I'll
advise you about the quality and pricing of the food , the
service, and the atmosphere.
Our first visit will be to Park Side, located at 107-01, Corona
Ave.(51 Ave.), in Queens: (718) 271-9321. Reservations are a
must, and they book quickly. Parking is limited, but valet
parking is available. The setting is beside a small, quaint old
park where Italians still play Bocce outdoors. Seating is
comfortable. Atmosphere is warm-friendly-Italian-family.
If you are looking for a more romantic setting, ask to be
seated in the Marilyn Monroe room upstairs. Pricing is $20 to $30 per person, which includes appetizers and
a drink. The service is exceptional and personable.
The food is outstanding,
with many different appetizers to select from - from crisp
Fried Calamari to Mozzarella in Carozza. In fact you can't
choose an appetizer that isn't wonderful. If you love calamari,
as I do, remember one order satisfies two hungry people.
Park Side cooks many
varieties of pastas, chicken, fish, veal, pork and beef.
Portions are large, and vegetables for the whole table are served
on the side. I highly recommend the Chicken Romano, a version
of Chicken Marsala, smothered in mushrooms. Mmmmmm!
After dinner, you can relax
over coffee and a wonderful Italian dessert, or go outside to
the Lemon Ice King, order an outrageous Italian ice, and taste
heaven while sitting on a bench in the picturesque triangular
park.
Over the next few months, I'll be telling
you about a lot more restaurants, some known, some unknown-but-
wonderful restaurants where you can satisfy a healthy and
hearty appetite
with outstanding food....without straining your wallet.
Have a happy, healthy, and delicious New
Year!
